Originally I was planning to create an installation with sound, however, as I was thinking about imitating deaf environment, I considered putting my track inside of headphones and letting no sound coming out from the speakers would be better. Thus, l research that humans could not hear any sound under 20 hz, which will allow the frequency to maintain the same but zero sound coming from the speaker. However, while l was creating the track, l realized that if l wanted the headphones to play sound, how would l match the frequency as l motivate the installation. If so, then I was wondering about putting them into raspberry pi, and allowing the sound to play at the same time.
- Experimenting: during the experimentation process l was focusing too much on the area of building installation, but I forgot to test the music display on the installation.
- When l review back to my initial idea I realize it was not quite successful, it is base on my lack of music understanding
- There are two challenges, first is using mono raspberry pi to create multi-channel, second is to increase the vibration through high frequency melodies, however, through my research from the work “xxx” by xxx and the theory of “xxx”, both questions was solved nicely. Due to the lack of sound tools, the original technical specification of multi-channel raspberry pi was not supplied, thus l have wisely utilized mono raspberry pi and improvise with changing my audio settings into stereo with left and right channels. Using two mono raspberry pi could still allow my work to function the same. However, through my experimentation of using yarn to connect speakers, l realized that the high frequency was not vibrating large enough for people to easily observe. Therefore, l have researched through “using low frequencies that below 20hz which under human hearing, could allow the vibration of my high frequency melody to increase without making low frequency sound”, despite this could eventually work out for this challenge, I did not apply this theory to my sound piece, it is because that my main concept is to allow the deaf communities to feel the sound, if l have change the original vibration that each frequency could pass, it will destroy my original intention.
- The sound piece l portrayed for this installation is belongs to the genre “house”, using this genre is because l was inspired by the …..,
- Originally my installation area was not including the table, however, when l found out the table was unremovable, l have included it inside of my piece. In this work, l have used space wisely.
- In the future work, l would firstly research on the musicality and reliability, thinking if that is possible for me to experiment in full aspects, especially for time management, I should never underestimate any sound pieces’ creation period, experimentation for full-scale presentation should be tested before the final exhibition.
