As an Fine art and design student, this is my very first time to experience anythings to do with sound, at the very beginning l do not understand the meaning of sound art at all. However, after the two days of introduction into sound art, the initial interest for me with sound art is exploring more details with patient. To specify this is to listen carefully around the sound around us, l feel much more patient and focus into the surroundings, and l wanted to explore more about it, l want to see how can l combine my interest in fine art and design with sound art, would they create bold and innovatory pieces? At the beginning of sound art, we have mainly focused on sounds from surroundings, we are match the suitable emotions with these sounds, at the same time we will put ourselves into the situation where we can here these sounds. I’m greatly surprised by how sound could conveys emotion and creates a sense of space for people, while l was walking inside the forest l also realise sound comes first before visual, therefore sound actually helped us to complete our understanding towards the scene that we have seen. At this early stage sound art to me is a creative tool that uses voice and sound to strength people’s understanding towards their surrounding.
Read Mandy-Suzanne Wong on sound art – One point interest me:
In Mandy-Suzanne Wong’s short article “Sound art”, she explained the definition of sound art, where sound art can be performed in many form and genre, where it is not limited in any specific form or genre. As what she had wroted the sound art artists are”overtly challenge the boundaries and definitions of artistic genres”, there are more possibilities where sound art could be used and developed, they can involve our elements too, it could be visual and tectile, this a very nice form of art, where art can be greatly inclusive and undefine, there is no rubic to restrict you and you could be as creative as you can, to find more possibilities that how sound art can be perform.
